Magic Platters
The most famous and glamorous of all vocal American groups is, undoubtedly, The Platters, who represented America worldwide by selling millions of records. In the fifties, Buck Ram, composer and producer seeks interpreters for his songs. He wants to form a group and hires the services of one female singer and four singers, unemployed, who immediately accept the offer. That group takes the name of The Platters, meaning "records" in American slang. The first recording of Only You is distributed in 1953, it is a total disaster and the first change takes place within the group. The solo singer of that time is then replaced by Tony Williams and the record is completely re-arranged. At the same time, Bill Haley chooses The Platters in order to sing Only You in his film "Rock Around the Clock". Success is amazing and that title becomes a universal hit. It will in fact remain the greatest hit of the group of all times.

Other songs also toured around the world: The great pretender, I'm sorry, Twilight time, Smoke gets in your eyes, My prayer. Success is hard to assume for non-professionals and more changes take place. That is why Correl Gunther, Alex Hodges, Paul Robi, Herbert Reed, Sonny Tunner, Linda Hayes, Zola Taylor succeeded one another, whilst Tony Williams was seriously ill.

However, in spite of changes and problems, success was growing. The Platters were becoming a legend. Although his health was improving, Tony Williams and his new partner Ernest Wright (ex-member of The Imperials) found it hard to go on working under the leadership of Buck Ram. Tony Williams became ill again and this forced Buck Ram, at the end of the sixties, to present a new group in order to perpetuate the tradition in the wonderful way he has always been showing his singers. After several months, he finally met Ella Woods who was having a brilliant career as a solo singer. With Ella Woods and her group, he performed on all the famous stages in cities like Las Vegas, Reno, Chicago and always with the same notable success. In that period, every concert organizer had to present at least once in a year The Platters on stage in his city.

Auditoriums being always full, Ella Woods went on to present her own show in the United States for many years. Etoile Productions met her in 1985, thinking of presenting this exceptional product in Europe. But at that time, Ella Woods did not want to go across the Atlantic Ocean, concerned about her daughter's education. Then finally, at the end of 1992, Ernest Wright, who wanted to change his way of working, leaves Etoile Productions. Contact is taken up again with Ella Woods and her group and they enthusiastically agree to come to Belgium for a long European tour, a super show, a festival of nostalgia full of links to the present time. She did not come alone, of course, but with three well - known partners: Don Mc Collum, Joey Robinson and Jerrell Lamar. In short, four famous professionals presented a terrific show, made up, of course, with the biggest hits from The Platters, but also with other hits of that time ,together with a few samples of their new production.

The magic of those voices of the fifties together with the high technology of today's shows offer the audience of all generations, a festival of nostalgia worthy of the most informed experts. The Magic Platters are here for you.
